Friday 16th December—End of term
Last half term was very busy and all our children made a positive start in their new year group, and this half term will be even busier - not only lots of new topics being covered but also preparing Christmas performances to share with our families. There will also be other opportunities for some year groups to come and join your children for a lesson and lunch as well as Foundation Stage workshops.
Here at Malvin’s Close we are very proud of our children’s art work. We are therefore delighted to be able to invite you to enjoy a spectacular art exhibition in the school hall featuring the professionally framed art work of your child.
The exhibition will take place after school on Thursday 17th November and Friday 18th November. You will be given a chance to purchase your child’s framed art work for £6.50. We very much hope you will join us.
Roald Dahl Poetry Competition
To celebrate the 100 year anniversary for Roald Dahl’s birthday, Vision for Education held a competition celebrating this fantastic author’s work. Years 3, 5 and 6 took part in this competition. 16 schools participated in Northumberland, 7 in Gateshead and 12 in Newcastle/North Tyneside. There were 10 runners up in Northumberland, spread over 9 schools and Malvin’s Close was the only one to achieve two runner up prizes. Our lucky winners were two children in year 3. There were approximately over 1700 entries in Northumberland alone. Miss Lloyd and all of the staff at Malvin’s Close are extremely proud of the children for this fantastic result.
Thank you to everyone who has sent in charity shoeboxes so far. They are being collected on Thursday 10th November so any more will be gratefully received.
Awards for house points
We are excited to announce that from next week (week commencing 7.11.16) parents of pupils in the class with the highest number of house points for the previous week will receive a congratulations text. Also the parents of the pupil with the highest number of house points for that week will also receive a text to notify them of their child's achievements. Certificates will be awarded to the pupil who has the highest number of house points at the end of each half term.
Reception Admissions (September 2017)
If there are any siblings (brothers/sisters) of present pupils due for entry in September 2017, who are not in our nursery, we would be grateful if parents would make themselves known to the school office as soon as possible, nursery names are forwarded from the school office.
Change of lunch sittings
Since September our first lunch sitting (12.15pm to 12.45pm) has been for Year 1, 4 and 6 pupils. Our second lunch sitting (12.45pm to 1.15pm) has been for Year 2, 3 and 5 pupils. From next week (week commencing 7.11.16) we will swap these sittings over. For Spring 1 we will swap over again and will continue to swap the arrangements half termly. This is so that all pupils share the opportunity to take advantage of any second helpings that may be available and all pupils are able to have their lunch straight after their lessons for some half term periods. Reception pupils will continue to eat their lunch at 11.45am until 12.15pm for the whole of the academic year.
We will be holding our Christmas Fair on Friday 25th November between 3.30pm and 5.00pm. We will have games, a grand raffle, tombola's and various other stalls. Hope to see you there.
On Friday 11th November, Malvin’s Close pupil council would like children to bring in a handful of pennies to make a whole school penny poppy. School would like every class to contribute to celebrate remembrance day. If children could bring their pennies in a money bag or envelope to keep them safe and they will then be part of our contribution to the British Legion.
Just a reminder that children should be wearing black shoes for school. Also girls should be wearing skirts and tights or trousers, not leggings as these are not part our school uniform.
Attendance and Lates
Just a reminder that if your child is absent please contact school to give the reason for their absence. We would also like to remind everyone that school starts at 8.55am. However if your child is slightly late they will not be classed officially as late until 9.00am. The children get straight on with morning tasks as soon as they come in so it is important that they are ready to learn with the rest of their class.
